Howard-less Mavs beat banged-up Rockets (AP)

Dallas Mavericks' Jason Terry (31) battles Houston Rockets' Luis Scola (4), of Argentina, for a loose ball during the fourth quarter of a NBA basketball game Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008 in Houston. A jump ball was called on the play. The Mavericks beat the Rockets 96-86.

The way Jason Terry was shooting, the Dallas Mavericks hardly needed Josh Howard on Wednesday night. The Houston Rockets, meanwhile, sorely missed Yao Ming. Terry scored 31 points, and Dirk Nowitzki added 24 points and 12 rebounds in the Mavericks' 96-86 victory over the Rockets. Howard, the Mavs' second-leading scorer, was inactive because of a left ankle injury.

Red Sox trade OF Crisp to Royals (AP)

In this Aug. 14, 2008 file photo, Boston Red Sox's Coco Crisp watches the flight of his RBI single off Texas Rangers' Tommy Hunter in the second inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston. The Boston Red Sox have traded outfielder Coco Crisp to the Kansas City Royals for reliever Ramon Ramirez. A baseball official confirmed the trade to The Associated Press Wednesday Nov. 19, 2008 on condition of anonymity because it had not yet been officially announced.

The Kansas City Royals picked up the leadoff hitter they had been seeking, acquiring center fielder Coco Crisp from the Boston Red Sox for reliever Ramon Ramirez on Wednesday. Kansas City was 12th among 14 AL teams in runs last season and added power last month, obtaining first baseman Mike Jacobs from Florida.

Liang and Sterne were a stroke ahead of Taiwan's Lin Wentang -- who recovered from a double bogey on the opening hole -- and 48-year-old Frankie Minoza of the Philippines.

The Detroit Pistons are starting to show their potential with Allen Iverson, beating two of the NBA's best teams in less than a week. Adu scores first goal for national team (AP)

Guatemala defenseman Cristian Noriega, front, kicks the ball past United States midfielder Ricardo Clark in the second half of the United States' 2-0 victory in a World Cup qualifying soccer game in Commerce City, Colo., on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008.

Freddy Adu has been hyped and heralded since the day he burst onto the soccer scene. However, extreme talent doesn't impress nearly as much as production. Adu scored his first goal as a member of the U.S. national team and Jozy Altidore assisted on Kenny Cooper's sliding shot, leading the Americans to a 2-0 win over Guatemala in a World Cup qualifier on a cool Wednesday night.

Mariners hire Wakamatsu as manager (AP)

New Seattle Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu, right, holds up a note to him written by his 10-year-old daughter, Jadyn, during a news conference announcing his hiring as general manager Jack Zduriencik looks on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, in Seattle. Wakamatsu became the first Asian-American manager in major league baseball history when he was hired Wednesday by the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners' 14th manager, Wakamatsu was bench coach for the Oakland Athletics last season. Before that he spent five years with the Texas Rangers.

Don Wakamatsu is proud to be the first Asian-American manager in major league history. He's also keenly aware of what his grandparents endured, generations before he took over the Seattle Mariners. During World War II, the United States government moved his Japanese ancestors across the country from one internment camp to another.
